Description:
I own a gun and bait store in Central Florida. I have a business partner whom I have known for 35 years and we work the business with our significant others. We have been in business for one and a half years and doing pretty well considering the economy.
I am a State Licensed Building Contractor and have 30 years experience in both residential and commercial construction. I worked in city government for 18 years and had side businesses where I purchased several residential units and rehabbed them for resale or rental. I have constructed over 150 new homes, rehabbed over 1000 homes and built a couple of strip shopping centers and light industrial buildings.
My business partner is a 16 year Marine and was a Helicopter Crew Chief. Later in his career he trained the new Marines in shooting and self defense and designed firing ranges. After medical issues shortened his career in the Marines he became an Airplane Mechanic for such companies as Bombardier and RD Air.
When the economy got so bad we both were laid off from our jobs. Not really having any job prospects we decided to combine our experiences and hobbies and opened the store.
Our store is located at the Eastern side of the Ocala National Forest on the highly traveled State Road 40. Astor was founded by William Astor who in the 1800's bought 12000 acres of land on the St. Johns River and platted a town that he called Manhattan. His vision was to develop a sportsman's paradise in the middle of this wild and beautiful land. His vision died with him when he died on the Titanic's maiden voyage, but Astor Florida, as it was later named, didn't.
While Astor is a small town of approximately 2000 people, it is highly attractive to the sportsman for it's fishing and hunting and it's relaxed river and old Florida lifestyle.
While our business is still young, we have established a lot of local support and new customers stop in every day and make us a regular stop to see what new firearms we have in stock.
Constructing an indoor firing range was a goal from the beginning and we have had numerous requests from our customers. We have done surveys to see if there is a demand and we have done the research to see what our market area and capture would be and the numbers look very good.
We feel that constructing the range would not only benefit our business but help our local economy as well.
We would promote the range by having competition shooting contests, police and advanced shooter training and increase the amount of people we train for gun safety and concealed weapon permitting. We would also offer firearm rental so people can try out a type of firearm before they purchase it. Having a firing range would increase the repeat customer activity by providing a safe, temperature controlled environment to practice using their firearms. This would increase sales of ammunition and targets and other accessories and open other avenues of revenue such as more training classes, firearm rental and police department contracts.
I could go on forever talking about our plans and visions for our store but would prefer to do that with a serious investor. I will gladly provide more individual background information on the primary partners of the company and the numbers for the range. We are not looking for investors that want to be part owners of the business or get a certain percentage of the business. We are looking for someone that is interested in a fair interest on their investment and has faith in our plan. If the idea of this proposed venture appeals to you, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
