Emergency Medical Services is divided into the private and local city/county sectors. Some private Emergency Medical Services services are contracted by city or county governments to provide 911 service. For the most part however, private Emergency Medical Services companies provide ad hoc services between hospitals, clinics, dialysis centers and nursing facilities.
The market for our Ambulance Service will be compromised of three sectors: Nursing Homes and Senior Living Facilities, Dialysis Centers and Specialized Care Centers, and Hospitals/Medical Centers.
1. Dialysis Centers/Specialized Care Centers. Providing this level of service requires only a BLS (Basic Life Support) unit staffed with two EMT's. This service, which is predominantly dialysis based, usually only operates from morning till evening and does not require staffing 24x7. Patients typically go to dialysis three times a week, which translates into 6 transports via ambulance every week. Medicare payouts are usually within the $225-$250 per trip range, translating into $40,000 in revenue per patient per year. The amount $40,000 is at the low end of the revenue spectrum, because we have factored in the times a patient cannot be transported because they've been admitted to a hospital.
2. Nursing Homes/Senior Living Facilities. This base must be targeted, as ultimately it is the patient who makes the final decision on who will be providing the transport. While a facility may have a contract in place with another ambulance service, the patient can veto this by stating the service of their choice. It is this base that will assist our Emergency Medical Services in securing our Hospital/Medical Centers segment.
3. Hospitals/Medical Centers.
Transfers between hospitals, especially from a lower level facility, (eg: urgent care); to a higher level facility generate the most revenue. These types of calls require a ALS Level Ambulance (Advanced Life Support), and must be staffed 24x7. They also require at least one Paramedic and additional equipment. Medicare, typically does not pay much more than $300 for these calls, however private insurance pays anywhere from $500-1000 on these calls. These numbers are actual amounts collected and are not the amount billed. Securing contracts is difficult, time consuming and involves patience and persistence. Most small ambulance companies which decide to go this route are successful only if they have established a rapport with nursing staff. The patient always makes the final decision, and nursing staff can often "suggest" a particular ambulance company, even when there is already a contract in place with another service.

1.3. Keys to Success
Keys to success for the company will include:
